My photo
I keep and breed a small number of Australian grass parakeets. This blog provides information and pictures of my birds and a log of their breeding activities. It is also a photo blog of landscapes and wildlife. My dog Buster may also make an appearance. For Nest Box Live - click the link above or visit my website!

Good news and bad news

Good news: 5 of the turks have now fledged
Bad news: the little one didn't make it. I suppose I should have intervened, but the parents got in there before me to start their next clutch.

The turks should be leaving the box soon.....most of them, the little one may take a while!  The parents are getting ready to go again.

Red yellow opaline

I'm a little bit pleased with these young turks...

These are all red fronted yellow opalines, like their parents.  However, at least two of them are turning into something a bit special.

I hope the little one makes it.

Bengalese dead

I discovered the male bengalese dead in the nest basket today, with a lot of eggs.  I think the eggs are from different hens, so I'm wondering if he has exhausted himself.  I've obviously got it very wrong leaving four bengalese together with all of them trying to nest and roost in the same basket.

Turks update

All the opaline turk chicks are doing well.  I can already see a few red feathers.

I've decided to give my other turk cock a new hen.  Things were just not happening with the hen he was with last year.  Details to follow.

Who's the daddy?

Who's the mummy for that matter?
The bengalese have eggs, but I've no idea who has laid them and now all 4 want to sit on them.  Out of the 4 the only one I know is a male is the peal at the front of the picture. This is one of the new birds together with the albino behind.
