My photo
I keep and breed a small number of Australian grass parakeets. This blog provides information and pictures of my birds and a log of their breeding activities. It is also a photo blog of landscapes and wildlife. My dog Buster may also make an appearance. For Nest Box Live - click the link above or visit my website!

Turq chick fledged

The cinnamon turquoisine has left the box...I think it was pushed out as he still looks a little young.

more baby bourkes

...and just as the first round of chicks become independent the second round of eggs start to hatch (see nest box cam).  Finally a pair of parakeets that are getting it right!

Young bourkes ready to go

The first round of bourkes chicks are now old enough to be sold.

I'm going to keep one of the rosa's (split rubino) cock birds to pair in the future with my new young lutino hen (below)

More chicks?

Rosie as at least one chick.  I think this is the second chick,  the first chick to hatch died.  Since then I've been unable to get her off the nest to see if any more of the eggs have hatched.

Cinnamon male turquoisine

The turquoisine chick is cinnamon and a male.  I'm pleased about this because it proves that the mother is a cinnamon yellow due to sex-linked genetics. I already new that dad was split for cinnamon.

Update - in the nest boxes

The single turquoisine chick is doing OK.

The bourkes (Pinky and Perky) are on the second clutch.  3 eggs look fertile out of the five.

Pinky (dad) with one of the rosa chicks from the first clutch....

The other bourkes (Rocky and Rosie) are also on 5 eggs, due to hatch soon.
