The opaline turquoisines have SIX chicks. I'm hoping they will have a lot of red when they feather up.

It is also a photo blog of landscapes and wildlife. My dog Buster may also make an appearance. For Nest Box Live - click the link above or visit my website!

Introducing Finch Cam
I've now got a camera set up in a finch basket, which I'll be broadcasting occasionally. Hopefully the bengalese will nest in it. Currently all of them are trying to cram themselves in. I now have 4 bengalese as I wasn't sure if the two I already had were the same sex. One of the new ones is definitely male and has been singing.

Bourkes update
Not a good start to the season for the bourkes. The new young lutino hen has been acting 'chicken like'..9 eggs laid over nearly a month and no incubation, but plenty of mating. I've decided to remove the nestbox for now and I've put some of the eggs under my older bourkes. The older bourkes have already had a failed clutch and their second clutch of only 4 eggs look infertile. She's now sat on seven, five of which are not her own. Hopefully she'll go the distance plus a bit extra.

1st chicks of 2012
My opaline turqs eggs are now hatching. 3 chicks had hatched last time I looked out of the 7 eggs, 6 of which look fertile.
Nothing much happening with my other turquoisine pair. The bourkes are not doing that great either, a lot of egg laying but not much to show for it.
