My photo
I keep and breed a small number of Australian grass parakeets. This blog provides information and pictures of my birds and a log of their breeding activities. It is also a photo blog of landscapes and wildlife. My dog Buster may also make an appearance. For Nest Box Live - click the link above or visit my website!

Turqs hatching

The turqs eggs have now started to hatch....bang on time.  They can be watched on the webcam.
All three bourkes are now out of the nest and Pinky and Perky look as if they are getting ready for the next round.
The other bourkes, Rocky and Rosie have 5 fertile eggs.

Nest box camera

As you will have seen on 'nest box live' I'm trying out a new nest box this year.  It's horizontal rather than vertical with a wireless camera mounted to the side.

It doesn't have 'windows' like my other box with camera (below) and therefore relies only on infra red., but the angle gives a good picture without excessive brightness from the infra red light.

Vertical box with 'windows'

The turqs are nesting in the horizontal box and the bourkes in the vertical box.

Pink

Pinky and Perky's chicks will soon be leaving the nest box (at least two of them). The big Rosa has a really good colour (left), he looks more pink than the rubino hen (right).  The nest box will need a good clean-out as bourkes are not the best housekeepers.

Update on my othe birds:
Rocky and Rosie's single chick has died.  It was well fed so I don't know why, but I think it may have been due to the long incubation.  I've now moved Rocky and Rosie into the brown aviary.
My new turquosine hen paired with Rudolph and has started sitting on at least 4 eggs.
Scar is with Goldie.  He feeds her and he goes to the nest box, but she is showing no interest in breeding.

Scar

Some pictures and video of Scar, my red fronted yellow opaline male turquoisine.

it was a very windy day!

It's so frustrating that I don't have a hen that's old enough or fit enough to breed with him.
