My photo
I keep and breed a small number of Australian grass parakeets. This blog provides information and pictures of my birds and a log of their breeding activities. It is also a photo blog of landscapes and wildlife. My dog Buster may also make an appearance. For Nest Box Live - click the link above or visit my website!

New birds

I managed to get some hen turks today at the Carlisle sale, another yellow opaline and a cinnamon opaline. Hopefully they are hens, there's always that bit of a doubt when opaline is involved.  I did a part exchange with the cinnamon cock I bred last year.  Shame, as I would have really liked to keep this bird, especially when looking at the pictures below, but I need hens, and I'm hopefull of breeding some more cinnamon cocks this year anyway.

 Cinnamon opaline (2011)

Yellow Opaline (late 2010)

Below are pictures of the cinnamon cock that I exchanged..........

I also got a piar of bengalese finches.....just something different for the aviary.  I'll get some pictures next week.

CAM BACK ON-LINE
Despite the sudden cold spell I've decided to take a bit of chance with the bourkes.  They were showing interest in breeding so I've got them in the shed cage with light and a bit of heat.  Also the web-cam is in their box (see my web site).  I would like this pair to breed early (Rubino cock x rosa hen) because their 2nd round last year produced two birds with deformed feathers and if this is going to happen again I would like to know fairly early on in the season.
