My photo
I keep and breed a small number of Australian grass parakeets. This blog provides information and pictures of my birds and a log of their breeding activities. It is also a photo blog of landscapes and wildlife. My dog Buster may also make an appearance. For Nest Box Live - click the link above or visit my website!

16 days old

Tuquoisines - 4 normals and 2 yellows....the one on the right has quite a bit of red (looks good!).

Bourkes - Pinky and Perky have 2 fertile eggs out of the five (better than none!).   Not sure what's happening with Rosies eggs, she has 5 but she's not sitting.

  1. They are getting to be very lovely. I must say the opaline is very cool and I like it with the yellow, but I still like just the full red fronted better especially in the normal colored turqs.

  2. Opaline? I'm not sure yet! Although their mother is opaline, dad needs to be split for it also. He may be, but I just don't know. It was a surprise when I found out he was split for yellow. If red shows on the back, it'll be an opaline. I should be able to tell in the next few days.

  3. I see a lot of red on the back of the older yellow baby - doesn't that mean opaline? or is it just a factor of the picture i.e. the yellow color more concentrated due to still being in the pin feathers.
